Summer Camp Nature Instructor

WILDWOOD RANCH JOB DESCRIPTIONS OVERVIEW, the Nature Instructor should:
  1. Teach during all camper activity rotations and camper free time/nature play (as requested).
  2. Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers.
  3. Develop a curriculum to teach to various age groups as well as develop a more intensive nature study with an emphasis on God's handiwork in creation and the natural processes.
  4. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  5. Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques according to the Behavior Management Policy to protect the interest of campers, staff and the camp.
  6. Assist with all camp evening activities including; chapel, night games and campfires.
  7. Maintain Nature Center, trails and equipment.
  8. Abide by all DNR regulations.
  9. Care for plants and animals in nature center.
  10. Assist with other areas of the camp when not running the Nature Center, such as: initiatives, group games, meal set up/clean-up, etc.
  11. Attend and participate in staff meetings each day and on Sundays.
  12. Put the needs of the campers before your own needs/desires.
  13. Show love to all campers while they are at camp.
  14. Work alongside & support other staff you come in contact with throughout the day.
  15. Help campers keep the campgrounds clean by teaching them about the “Leave No Trace” concept.
  16. Greet camper families with great enthusiasm when they arrive at camp/bus stop.
  17. Greet with great enthusiasm the bus when it arrives with campers from Detroit.
  18. Effectively utilize spontaneous “teachable moments”.
  19. Participate in skits and worship at Chapel as needed. Actively supervise and engage campers during Chapel.
  20. Assist kitchen staff, teen ministry leaders and LIT campers with meal set-up and cleanup as needed in the mornings and at dinners as assigned.
  21. Encourage & build up the excitement of the summer theme, clean cabins and cabin competitions each week.
  22. Complete camper paperwork/staff evaluations as asked by the end of the week.
  23. Be an example of true Christian character and conduct.
