American Red Cross Virtual Development Internship

Reports to: Regional Philanthropy Officer or Grant Specialist

Location: Virtual/Remote
Status: Status: Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week
Compensation: Unpaid, but may meet requirements for college internship credits – students should review with their program advisor to determine if this internship will count for credit for their program.

Summary
We are looking for a highly self-motivated intern to support our development initiatives. Interns will focus on development projects, and may also assist with other service lines to provide the intern with a broad understanding of the Red Cross. Students pursuing degrees in Nonprofit Management are ideal candidates, but internships in this department can be tailored to match a variety of academic and career interests. Our organization will provide you with immeasurable hands-on leadership, communications, and administrative experience that will deeply broaden your knowledge and skills in a nonprofit environment. We are seeking an intern who is not afraid to take the initiative in leading a program/project, has strong communication skills (verbal and written) and will bring ideas to the table to enhance our efforts.
 
Objective
This internship will provide the intern an understanding of American Red Cross programs and services. Interns will participate in projects and programs that will provide opportunities to learn effective ways to support development in a nonprofit organization.

Performance Dimensions of Tasks
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Administrative Program Support and Direct Service
  • Maintain program/project data in Salesforce, Microsoft Excel and Red Cross Databases.
  • Perform research on companies and individuals
  • Support outreach strategy for the chapters
  • Prepare holiday cards and other correspondence including but not limited to mass email and mailing campaigns for the Board, Tiffany Circle, Donors etc.
  • Develop communications around blood drives, sharing dates of upcoming drives, confirming appointments, identifying blood drive sponsors
  • Assist with programmatic presence on social media
  • Assist with coordination of engagement with organizations surrounding March is Red Cross Month
  • Confirm appointments, assist with scheduling
  • Assist with grant writing
  • Represent the Red Cross in a professional manner that is consistent with our mission and international principles.
