Carmel Youth Assistance Program Intern

The Carmel Youth Assistance Program (CYAP) serves as an early intervention advocate for youth ages 3-17 who are facing challenging life circumstances. We take a holistic approach to coordinate our community’s vast array of talents, services and resources to help youth and empower parents and caregivers. We work with a coalition of government agencies, schools and community members who proactively seek to reach at-risk youth and help them find a path to success. We provide opportunities for success by coordinating services, family assistance, and volunteer tutoring/mentoring.

You will be working alongside a small team of 3 people in a relaxed environment. The main goal of Youth Assistance is to connect families to resources in need. In addition, CYAP strives to fill gaps in the community by creating programs such as the Carmel Summer Meals Program, mentoring, and tutoring. CYAP is seeking an intern to help support these programs to ensure they are being executed properly and successfully.

Duties could include but are not limited to:

VOLUNTEERS
  • Participate in recruitment, training and working with volunteers.
  • Recruit volunteers by speaking before local civic groups and contacting community volunteer organizations to work with juveniles under the supervision of the Circuit Court.
  • Orient and train volunteers selected from interviews in order to provide casework clients with a positive and personal influence in their lives to avoid future social problems.
  • Assist with creating/modifying trainings, programs, and outings.
  • Track volunteer records and hours

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Depending on the program assignment, may act as a consultant to the community in areas of delinquency prevention programming; may participate with assigned youth on recreational or other extracurricular outings and/or work details. 
  • Arranges programs in assigned communities and initiates other community efforts to eliminate conditions which cause delinquency, abuse, and neglect.
  • Performs a variety of public relations functions within the community to ensure the continuation or expansion of existing community-funded delinquency prevention programs, including preparing reports on program activities, speaking before local officials, media and community groups, and preparing news releases.
  • Acquires and coordinates office and clerical support for the Youth Assistance Program for the community served to meet administrative needs.

PROGRAM SUPPORT
  • Assist with coordination of Carmel Summer Meals program including managing deliveries, registrations, food inventory, pulling data reports, etc.
  • Coordinate fundraisers including Pack The Cruiser
  • Navigate and research community resources on a case by case basis
