Group Counselor
As a group counselor, you will spend your day with a group of campers, going with them from activity to activity (sports, arts & crafts, swimming, etc.). Our campers range in age from 3 years old to 14 years old and are grouped by age. Starting in first grade, campers (and counselors) are grouped by gender because they change twice a day for swim. Check out a day in the life at Camp Riverbend!
To be a group counselor, you have to want to have fun! You participate in all activities with your campers, guide them throughout the day, and help facilitate a positive group environment.
Each group has between 12 and 18 campers and between 2 and 3 counselors depending on the age. The head counselor of each group is someone with experience working with children and must be at least a college senior. Most heads of groups are educators. Co-counselors must be at minimum rising seniors in high school.
Riverbend counselors can elect to take a college level course while working. It’s only a 2 hour/week commitment and Riverbend will even cover a large chunk of the tuition for you (while you still get paid a salary!)
Catered lunch and snacks (including ice cream!) are included daily. Camp is Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm June 26 - August 11. Staff orientation and training is over a weekend earlier in June.
