Summer Camp Counselor

Camp Counselors gain skills that are useful and attractive to any industry! You will be supervising campers, engaging in decision-making and behavior management, and living ethics — all necessary leadership skills for today. Communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and contribution are critical for success in today’s world are developed and practiced at camp.

Founded by Detroit philanthropists George and Ellen Booth in 1904, Cranbrook Educational Community is one of the world’s leading centers of education, science, and art. Comprised of a PreK-12 day and boarding school, a graduate school of art, a contemporary art museum, a natural history and science museum, a center for collections and research, and more than 1,800 campers attending our summer camps, Cranbrook welcomes thousands of people to its campus each year. Critics have called Cranbrook “the most enchanted and enchanting setting in America” and in 1989, it was designated a National Historic Landmark. The 319-acre campus is located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, about 20 miles north of Detroit.

Camp Counselor Duties: Supervise and be accountable for campers during the camp day including pick-up/drop-off, activities, lunchtime, transitions, and downtime. Provide consistent positive engagement with and safety for each camper. Lead enriching and creative experiences and activities when assigned. Camper age ranges depend on camp of interest. Overall age range 3-17. Qualifications: High school diploma; childcare experience; 18+ years of age; superior problem-solving skills and ability to relate with campers, staff, and parents. Preferred: Currently attending or graduated from college; camp employment experience. Timeframe: June 15 through August 14; Weekdays only except first and last.
