Government Affairs Intern

Catalyst Public Affairs Group is seeking a Government Affairs Intern for the 2024 Legislative Session. The intern team will interact daily with the Catalyst team throughout session, where they will work alongside a highly respected government affairs group to develop an in-depth knowledge of policy issues, the legislative process in Indiana, and the daily operations of the team and various state trade associations. 
 
Time Frame: The internship will run from late December 2023 through the week after the conclusion of the 2024 Legislative Session (on or before March 14, 2024). Start and end dates are approximate and subject to change based on mutual desire and need. Daily and weekly schedules can be flexible within reason to accommodate class schedules as necessary. 
 
Responsibilities
-       Attend legislative committee meetings and session, taking detailed notes of proceedings 
-       Track legislation of importance to Catalyst’s family of clients throughout the legislative process  
-       Write daily legislative updates and weekly newsletters summarizing relevant legislative action and clipping news stories that will be sent to clients 
-       Manage newsletter delivery to clients
-       Update Catalyst’s shared calendar with committees and other important events 
-       Conduct research and policy analysis as requested 
-       Assist Catalyst team members with projects related to legislation, communications, and association management as requested 
 
Qualifications: 
-       College student or graduate; prior legislative experience preferred 
-       Exceptional oral and written communication skills 
-       Skilled in Microsoft 365 (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel) 
-       Capability to work with a team, while demonstrating flexibility and independence 
-       Ability to research and analyze various types of data and issues 
 
Wages: $600 per week, paid bi-monthly on the 15th and 30th; parking provided 

This internship is in-person only. Interns will divide their time between the Indiana Statehouse and the Catalyst offices, which are conveniently located across the street from one another.
