Position Summary: 

The role of the Education Intern will be responsible for facilitating programs with and without supervision and promoting the value of early learning in the Children's Museum environment. The Education Intern will occasionally assist the Education Manager in program development and research as well as assist during special and community events. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Act as support for Education Manager by collaborating on program development. 
  • Gather materials necessary for classes and programs. 
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate camps, field trips, and other programming. 
  • Facilitate and help coordinate Wonder Workshop activities and “Kids Kits” for the museum.
  • Assist with weekend and/or evening special or community outreach events as needed. 
  • Additional duties as assigned by Education Manager.

Job Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing college degree or equivalent experience, pursuing a bachelor's degree in either early childhood education, elementary education, or arts administration is preferred. 
  • Must have the ability to organize, direct, and manage activities and projects, and work independently. 
  • Experience in teaching, either within a preschool or early elementary classroom environment or within the settings or an informal learning environment preferred. 
  • Must have strong planning and organizational skills. 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be able to collaborate with others (including in person) to proactively develop solutions. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, move from place to place, use hands to fingers or handle and talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally asked to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to use all basic office equipment. 
  • The employee works in a children's museum and office environment with moderate noise. Occasional travel is required.

Manages: Museum Experience Specialist involved with programming 

FLSA Classification: Part-Time, Non-exempt 

Availability: 20 hours per week January - December, with occasional weekend and evening hours
