2024 - Government Contracts – Summer Associate, Campus

Our Summer Associate internships will be approximately 8 weeks in length and will begin Summer 2024. Summer associate positions are for candidates with expected graduation date between December 2024-July 2025. 

Overview 

The summer associate position requires a highly motivated problem solver with analytical abilities and a desire to learn more about the organization. Responsibilities include: modeling of financial and cost accounting data, performing compliance assessments and gap analyses, designing of financial and statistical models and analyses, analyzing and developing contract claims, development of client deliverables, and forensic accounting related investigations and litigation. The work is typically both qualitative and quantitative in nature, and projects range from industry and subject-matter research to data collection, benchmarking and competitive analysis to the preparation of statistical, financial, and other forms of analysis and project deliverables.

We believe that a company’s ability to navigate these complex and unique challenges while managing risks during the course of performance will determine its profitability, growth and ultimate success.

We advise our clients on matters that span the entire life cycle of a government procurements, focusing primarily on complex costing and pricing matters, restructuring cost accounting practices, responding to regulatory audits, and award close-outs. We bring intelligent, innovative solutions combined with a focus on financial expertise, regulatory interpretation and compliance, to the issues client face including successful resolution of government audits, investigations, disputes, and suspension and debarment.   Our client relationships often start with a complex event in the contract life- cycle and tend to continue with an increasing variety of ways we continue to enable our clients to succeed in public procurement.  

We provide independent and objective analyses supported by facts and sound approaches—backed by decades of experience. Our engagements have involved assisting high profile commercial companies building capacity to provide for our nation’s stockpiles of pandemic vaccines, to supplying complex algorithmic technology solutions to the national security organizations, to assisting clients defend practices in high-risk countries, like Iraq and Afghanistan.  Our experts testify on complex costing, pricing matters and work with legal counsel to investigate and obtain successful outcomes in complicated disputes.  As the industry continues to consolidate and expand, we support strategic buyers, sellers and private equity groups to perform due diligence and consult on government procurement issues that impact deal pricing, as well as perform post-merger integration; all with an expert government procurement perspective often required.  

While our clients are dispersed across the U.S., the Washington, D.C. area is the headquarters for our practice group. 

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with clients analyzing various financial cost and pricing-related challenges as well as contract compliance issues, including GSA Schedule compliance, discounting analyses, procurement, and potential cost mischarging matters.
  • Assist clients with critical accounting, contract administration, and strategic business assessments. Develop customized solutions addressing critical objectives while also enhancing client operational effectiveness and profitability.
  • Interact directly with clients in the aerospace & defense, professional services, biopharma and life sciences, manufacturing, technology, cybersecurity, construction & engineering, NGOs and health insurance sectors, among almost every other industry.
  • Perform detailed research and analysis, then put the results into action (e.g., gather, review and summarize literature and data from the public domain, specialized industry resources, or client, public and commercial databases).
  • Develop and maintain electronic databases, spreadsheets and other files as dictated by project needs. Develop support for litigation and dispute resolution, including forensic accounting analyses.
  • Demonstrate creative and efficient use of relevant software tools, analytical methods.
  • Audit own work product and work product of others to assure quality.
  • Participate in a team environment and work hard to meet client deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Participate in group practice meetings and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Progression towards a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the areas of accounting, finance, statistics, or other related subject.
  • 3.5 GPA or higher
  • 0-1 years of experience including internships
  • Capability with MS Excel and Powerpoint.
