Intern, Data Science

This is a 10-week summer internship position with our Data Science team. We are seeking a rising senior looking to gain valuable data science experience at a leading real estate investment trust. The Intern, Data Science will have the opportunity to blend high level strategic thinking with intensive data analytics to drive insights and recommendations for Ventas’ Senior Housing portfolio (800+ communities, $1B+ in Net Operating Income). The Intern will work cross-functionally with portfolio management, investments, and operating partners to identify pockets of opportunity within and outside of Ventas’ current portfolio. The Intern, Data Science will generally be responsible for:

  • Evaluating and driving adoption of new technologies, tools, and data sets to enhance competitive and operational intelligence
  • Helping develop proprietary models and dashboards to increase the firm’s visibility into portfolio performance and improve forecasting accuracy
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to convey actionable insights and influence long-term strategy
  • Developing and presenting business cases for portfolio acquisitions, divestitures, and capital investment based on insights
  • Researching industry trends, competitors, and consumer trends to identify opportunities to better position Ventas’ portfolio for growth
  • Learning, monitoring and reporting on industry trends, publications, news releases, etc.
    • Portfolio benchmarking and industry/competitor/market analysis
    • Earnings results for other healthcare REITs and healthcare operators
    • Research public policy that may impact the future of the industry
  • Completing ad hoc projects, reports or other requests as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled junior at a four-year college or university in pursuit of a degree in data science, business analytics, economics or statistics
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically in Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Experience with programming languages and tools such as Python, R, Alteryx and SQL
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; must be capable of explaining complex information to others in a straightforward manner
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks and relationships in a fast-paced, team-oriented and lean environment
  • Must be able to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during Summer 2024
