Photographer and Photo Archivist Internship - Spring 2024

GBH

GBH enriches people's lives through programs and services that educate, inspire, and entertain, fostering citizenship and culture, the joy of learning, and the power of diverse perspectives.

At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of one day each week: every Tuesday. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

All employees who will be working on-site at any GBH facility and/or attending GBH events are required to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) unless a request for an accommodation on medical or religious grounds has been requested and approved by GBH.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The GBH Creative team is comprised of some of the most innovative, collaborative, and talented people in our field. Together, we ensure that GBH’s communications are integrated, responsive, cost-efficient and successful. We are the passionate, dedicated builders and protectors of GBH’s many iconic brands. Our ideas power GBH’s efforts to reach new audiences, increase the visibility of our programs and services, and foster the financial support that fuels GBH’s mission to educate and entertain.

JOB OVERVIEW

GBH’s ability to create and publish efficiently and effectively requires smart management of photo assets from the start, in a centralized yet tailored photo management system. Currently, every department at GBH has their own bespoke process for taking, licensing, tracking and storing photos. They exist in “archives” across a multitude of devices and spaces, all of which are difficult to search, track and centralize.   GBH’s Creative Department is currently developing and implementing a new photo management system that will create much needed centralization and efficiencies, and the Photo Archivist Intern will play a central role in populating that system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Photo Archivist Intern will work closely with The Director of Photography to gather, edit and curate existing photo assets via a set of guidelines and naming and organizing conventions.  In addition, if desired, the Intern will have periodic opportunities to photograph for the organization with a focus stock imagery of the local area and internal events. This is not a photojournalism role, and the focus is primarily organizing, editing and archiving.

SKILLSET

  • Strong organizational skills. This person should have a passion for organizing visual assets.
  • Proficiency in photo management and editing software Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop including basic image editing (cropping, toning), file organization and storage and metadata best practices.
  • Additionally, experience photographing in a range of settings including public spaces is a plus but not required given the emphasis on archiving.
  • Ability to work on site in Brighton one day (8 hours) a week.

JOB-STATUS

Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time hybrid schedule)
