Position Focus:

 

Inclusion Economics at Yale University (YIE), a collaboration between the MacMillan Center and the Economic Growth Center, draws upon economics, political science, and related fields to conduct cutting-edge research to understand how policy can promote inclusive, accountable economies and societies. YIE's core research focuses on gender, labor economics and women's economic opportunities; political economy and governance; and environmental economics. Throughout the research life cycle, YIE engages closely with policy counterparts to ensure questions addressed are of of immediate relevance, and data-driven insights are regularly communicated to policy counterparts and other relevant stakeholders. YIE operates in collaboration with Inclusion Economics India Centre at IFMR and Inclusion Economics Nepal at Governance Lab.

 

YIE is seeking a Program Manager to manage project portfolios, including resource allocation, stakeholder coordination, project planning and management, relationship management with partner institutions, and execution of policy-research events. The Inclusion Economics Program Manager will also manage proposal applications for grants and gifts, including supporting partnership development, formulation of budget assumptions alongside faculty and research staff, preparation of the budget in collaboration with finance and project staff, compiling proposal components, and coordinating with subcontractors and counterparts for grant submissions; managing grants once awarded, including partnership management, tracking and preparing reports and deliverables, tracking and forecasting budget spending, allocating expenses, submitting invoices, and financial planning, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, and other project management. The Inclusion Economics Program Manager will also support protocols for the responsible use of human subjects in research.

 

The Inclusion Economics Program Manager will also facilitate hiring (including international), vendor agreements, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and operational aspects of portfolio; provide management support to project staff; coordinate recruitment efforts and travel support for project staff and research fellows; and manage the design and delivery of policy research conferences and other events.

 

The Inclusion Economics Program Manager will also help expand partnerships between MacMillan, EGCother Yale research centers and potentially other collaborating institutions on topics related to high quality research and data management. The position may include travel to the field as needed to ensure robust management of program activities and to problem solve with external vendors and collaborators.

 

Essential Duties:

 

1. Leads the identification and evaluation of potential funding sources, the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program. 2. Responsible for disseminating and publishing all program information. 3. Assists in developing and implementing strategic plans. 4. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 5. Obtains grant funding through timely submission of well researched, well written and well-documented grant proposals. 6. Maintains and implements a calendar of potential funding activities 7. Utilizes appropriate University and sponsor electronic systems to effectively manage, submit and/or report sponsored projects activity. 8. Assists in guiding and directing policy, procedure, and training of sponsored project activities. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

Bachelor’s Degree and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

 

Required Skill/Ability 1:

 

Demonstrated ability in grant proposal preparation and/or grant management. Strong administrative and project management skills.

 

Required Skill/Ability 2:

 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels. Ability to negotiate skillfully with both internal and external constituents. Demonstrated ability to be able to present ideas and communicate effectively, both verbally and in written materials.

 

Required Skill/Ability 3:

 

Strong and demonstrated ability to manage financial resources and construct and balance budgets for centers or projects across an array of revenues sources (e.g. grants, gifts, endowments).

 

Required Skill/Ability 4:

 

Well-organized, be able to prioritize, have strong attention to detail, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to be able to drive forward project objectives according to set timelines and deliver on project aims.

 

Required Skill/Ability 5:

 

Demonstrated positive attitude and commitment to working as a member of a center-wide team. The ideal candidate should have the ability to understand, communicate, and effectively interact with people across cultures. Being open to learning about different dimensions of diversity and exhibiting positive attitudes towards cultural differences.
