Visual Media Specialist

At AMERICAN, the Visual Media Specialist reports to Manager Communications. This role is responsible for all aspects of creating and producing videos for internal and external communications channels.

  • Responsible for conceptualizing, scripting, storyboarding, shooting, directing, editing, and producing videos for internal and external communications channels, including digital platforms, traditional and social media, and the website.
  • Collaborates with Communications Manager, sets deadlines and budgets, and works within budget to complete video projects.
  • Sources and maintains video, lighting and audio equipment needed on the job.
  • Maintains video library within Communications.
  • Assists in developing strategic plans and the annual budget for Communications.
  • Builds and maintains good relationships with employees at all levels across campus and at AMERICAN subsidiaries to understand and achieve project objectives aimed at telling engaging stories through video. Maintains good relationships with service providers.
  • Under general supervision, completes various video projects for customers enterprise wide.
  • Responsible for pre- and post-production of video projects, from maintenance of supplies and equipment to pre-production planning (including identifying talent and locations for shoots, and estimating project costs), to production, to posting videos to the company's library and/or other channels.
  • Maintains networking and benchmarking contacts to ensure best practices.
  • Pursues continuous improvement of Communications processes, products, and services.
  • Serves on Operational Excellence teams to support innovation and process improvement across campus.
  • Gathers and evaluates metrics from video projects to present to the Communications team to drive greater engagement through video.
  • Assists other Communications staff members as directed by Communications Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a bachelor's degree in visual media, video production, broadcast journalism or in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university. Proof of degree required. A transcript or diploma would be acceptable and must be provided. OR must exhibit four years' experience planning, writing, editing, and producing visual media.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of previous work experience in a position of responsibility that included content planning, writing, editing, and producing visual media or have demonstrated the equivalent level of skill through college and on-the-job assignments. Portfolio of published work samples required. A minimum of three examples of videos demonstrating scripting, shooting, and editing required. Each example should be accompanied by a written script formatted to show visual and audio components of the video.
  • Must have working knowledge of video, lighting, audio, and other visual media equipment used to produce high quality videos.
  • Must have a solid command of the English language including, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to script for video, including news and feature stories that tell engaging stories.
  • Must possess good interviewing and listening skills and good note taking, fact gathering, and analysis skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro or similar, and possess an aptitude to learn other relevant programs such as Photoshop, MS Office, social media, etc.

  • Has a willingness to attend occasional work-related events after-hours and on weekends.
  • Has keen professionalism and good judgement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience on the communications staff of a manufacturing company, corporate setting or as an agency or freelance service provider to industrial clients.
  • Knowledge of ACIPCO manufacturing processes, and ACIPCO organization, people, and culture.
  • Knowledge of journalistic style of writing for broadcast.
  • Knowledge of video animation software.
  • Knowledge of photography and photography equipment.
