Design Assistant

POSITION TITLE: DESIGN ASSISTANT – INTERNSHIP

           Potential for full time hire after 90 days - Entry-level position

DESCRIPTION:

Kitchens by Design is an award-winning kitchen design studio also known for designing baths, closets and more. Along with KBD Home and Custom Drapery, KBD is a full-service interior design firm with services ranging from space planning, to general contracting, to decorating. Kitchens by Design is seeking a motivated, creative individual to fill a Design Assistant position in its CAD department. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • In collaboration with design staff, develop floor plans and elevations of existing spaces and proposed designs using AutoCAD.
  • Assist designers, learn detailing and correct red-lined drawings.
  • Work with the design team to select fixtures and finishes. 
  • Assist the design team with on-site visits and at field measures.
  • Research and collect product information.
  • Compile pricing and prepare internal documents to support projects.
  • Check on and track product orders.
  • Assist in the showroom by helping potential clients, answering phones and greeting clients.
  • Help with staging accessories, framing artwork and showroom displays.
  • Assist with sample room and product library organization.
  • Assist at jobsite installations.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of fundamental design principles
  • Specific knowledge of kitchen/bath design and cabinetry preferred, but not necessary
  • Organization, communication and time management skills
  • Be comfortable interacting with clients, vendors, designers and builders
  • Attention to detail in both design and clerical tasks
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to take instruction
