Science has an exciting opportunity for a paid summer internship with our Editorial Department!

As a Science Editorial Intern, the individual will learn the ins and outs of Science's Insights section’s editorial process. Reporting to the Letters Editor, you will have the opportunity to help craft the October NextGen Voices survey for young scientists, which will feature a range of responses from early-career researchers about a topic you will help determine. (See recent NextGen Voices surveys at these links and in the Letters section of Science in the first issue of every January, April, July, and October.)

What You’ll Do 

  • Help the editor identify a topic, launch the next online NextGen Voices survey, and help select and edit submissions to publish.
  • Work with the design team to commission original art, contribute to a podcast and/or other media coverage about the survey, and help to proof page layouts.
  • Other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to editing letters, analyzing analytics, and learning about other parts of the Insights section of the journal

Minimum Requirements 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a science-related university or college program (graduate level preferred)
  • Experience in writing about science for a non-technical audience

Internship Details 
 
This is a 12-week, full-time paid internship, which will run from June - August 2024 (exact dates open to negotiation). The internship will be based out of our Washington, DC office on a hybrid-work basis. Fully remote work is also an option if agreed-upon in advance. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the help of a sponsorship. 

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $17.50 per hour. AAAS interns are eligible for SmarTrip transit benefits.
