Science Writing Intern

Despite advances in modern medicine, for every patient diagnosed with glioblastoma, there is an equivalent mortality. We need bright, creative, talented individuals, passionate about making a difference in the fight against brain cancer.

How can you help? Do like science? Do you have an interest in communicating scientific information or, in general, material as it pertains to the medical and healthcare sector? Or do you just want to sharpen those writing skills!

The Position:

The Institute is looking for interns to join the science editing and journalism team. There are different levels of science writing positions depending upon candidates' experience, skill set, and writing topic of interest. Applicants with little to no science writing experience are still welcome to apply.

Specific responsibilities for Science Writers:

• There are two levels for science writer applicants.

(I) Entry level, responsible for social media posts and blog entries.

(II) Intermediate level, responsible for developing scientific content for high level social media content and scientific articles.

• All writers are required to revise writing projects based on both internal and external feedback.

• All writers must be able to collaborate and work as a team to develop new ideas or writing topics.

• Other responsibilities include assisting in manuscript preparation and the attendance of group meetings.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing, or recently obtained a bachelor's / master's degree in English, science, marketing, or equivalent.

• Have excellent communication skills as well as an eagerness to learn about new fields.

• Have the appropriate technical vocabulary dependent upon science writer candidates' skill level at time of application.

• Must possess attention to detail, maintain quality posts, have critical thinking skills, and be able to meet deadlines

• Proficiency in MS word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint is a must.

• Confidence, creativity, patience, and commitment are key skills for this role!
