ELAW Program Assistant:

 

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW) seeks a motivated individual to support our team and our work with public interest lawyers around the world.

 

ELAW is a global alliance of lawyers, scientists, and other advocates collaborating across borders to build a sustainable, just future. ELAW’s global partners are addressing complex issues including challenging fossil fuel projects; reining in plastic pollution; protecting the climate; defending land rights; securing clean water; conserving ecosystems; and protecting environmental defenders.

 

The Program Assistant will help manage ELAW's information resources, answer general inquiries, and support our team. The Program Assistant will work with the Development Team, and provide general support to our other program teams. 

 

Duties include:

 

  • Data entry, management, and updates
  • Printing & assembling hard copy mailings to supporters
  • Hand-writing acknowledgements to donors
  • Researching vendors for events and projects, and managing vendor accounts
  • Coordinating building maintenance and office safety
  • Implementing sustainability practices and calculating ELAW’s carbon footprint
  • Managing office inventories
  • Provide general support across all teams, such as redirecting inquiries, locating documents, editing, proofreading, and more
  • Managing weekly Team meeting agendas
  • On-site basic IT assistance and troubleshooting
  • On-site support for Executive Director
  • Other general on-site office tasks

Required experience and qualifications

  • Permission to work in the United States
  • Residence in Eugene or Springfield, Oregon
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time
  • Experience with, exposure to, or strong interest in data entry
  • A commitment to human rights and environmental protection
  • Interest, ability, or experience working successfully in cross-cultural settings
  • B.A. or B.S. degree
  • The ability to work within a team, as well as independently
  • General working knowledge of office equipment
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
  • Experience with Google Workspace, including Calendar, Gmail, Drive, and Docs
  • The ability to use or learn virtual collaboration technology tools, including Zoom and Google Meet
  • A smartphone or phone that is able to use various apps
  • Fluency in English
  • Writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good time-management skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Legible handwriting
  • The ability to perform occasional physical tasks such as stooping, reaching, lifting, and navigating flights of stairs

 

Preferred experience and qualifications:

  • Experience with Salesforce or other database programs
  • Office experience: 1+ years
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Experience with non-profit organizations
  • Other languages are a plus.
  • Experience organizing events
  • Experience working with volunteers
