NJ TRANSIT

Innovation Intern

June - August 2024 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

Wonderful culture, encouraging managers, and plenty of networking opportunities. The internship coordination team was extremely supportive to all interns, ensuring that all the interns felt involved and enjoyed their work. All the staff is very welcoming and encouraging of new ideas and opportunities.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer! Definitely had an excellent time learning new things.

Advice

Transportation is a very crucial yet under-appreciated aspect of society; working with NJ TRANSIT brings to light the amount of processes behind-the-scenes of the world of transportation. There are a lot of new acronyms, abbreviations, and norms to learn. If you ever feel overwhelmed, ask and take notes! Initiative and effort is always appreciated.

Data Science

June - August 2023 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

The atmosphere of the company was very welcoming. Everyone is accommodating and friendly, you will make friends with 40-50-year-olds and absolutely love it. The DBA team is very open to helping you step by step, and you will be exposed to almost everything in the data world. This is probably the best thing because it helped me narrow down what part of the data I truly enjoyed and see myself pursuing.

What I wish was different

The commute to Newark was not great but the hybrid schedule made it better.

Advice

Ask questions, because like any place they love a curious worker. Also, be positive and have motivation, do not show laziness because that will give off a negative outlook on you.

Board Office Intern

June - December 2019 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

I loved working and meeting with internal staff to discuss documents. Internal staff included, Deputy Attorney General’s, NJ TRANSIT Police and others.

What I wish was different

After accepting an extension, I was then asked to stay on board for another semester. I had so much going on due to the fact that I was graduating that semester, I wanted to focus on school and decided not to. It was the right thing to do at the time. However, I do wish It was handled differently.

Advice

As an undergraduate it’s important to have an internship. You are able to asses your work style and others. It also sets a tone for the kind of work you may be exposed to as you continue your journey.

Fixed Assets Intern

June - August 2019 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

I liked that it was 10 weeks within a real workspace so I got a chance to experience what it’s like to work in a corporate space. I also liked that there were intern events so I got to meet my whole intern class. I worked on actual projects within the company so it felt good to contribute to real life projects and work.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was another intern working with me on my floor. Since I was alone I was around a lot of adults and sometimes I felt alone because there was no one my age on the finance floor. Other than that it was a wonderful experience.

Advice

If you want to get your feet wet with the corporate world this is a great internship to do. You can learn a lot such as commuting to and from work and having work assigned to you and having it completed within a timely manner.
