Veritiv Corporation

Sustainability Intern

June - August 2024 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

As a graduate student, I was in search of an internship that would place me in a setting where I would be able to contribute my strong skillset and feel like an asset but simultaneously, I could also receive meaningful work that would introduce me to new concepts and teach me what I had not yet covered in the classroom. This is exactly how I would describe my summer as a sustainability intern. The first few days were a couple of informative orientation days that demonstrated the intentional planning that went behind the construction of the internship program. Supported by a mentor and an engaging supervisor, the summer days went by so quick while I learned more about the organization’s sustainability initiatives and reporting methods helping create a comprehensive picture of ESG and corporate sustainability.

What I liked

I personally enjoyed the interns after 5 events because I was able to get closer to the other interns outside of work and it was a way for us to bond and connect with each other. Diversity Equity and Inclusion Intern

June - August 2023 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Veritiv Summer Internship program was one of my best experiences working full-time as a student. From their recruitment efforts to the final intern presentation, each day was structured well and represented the company's core values and we got to see it in action. Everyone is rooting for your success, including the CEO who takes time to meet interns on their first day and has an open-door policy. We had weekly professional development sessions and check-ins from mentors (who are not your managers). My favorite part about this internship was my manager, Brandi, who I learned a lot from.

Data & Pricing Analytics

June - August 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The entire internship was very well structured. Not only did the team I was interning with gave me great problems to work on, but the weekly sessions held by HR were also extremely informative. It was quite clear from the very first week that they take the development of their interns very seriously. My supervisors and managers were extremely involved in my project and assisted me in each stage of my problem solving. The problem involved sizing up the profit potential of an entire business vertical that would arise by rationalizing different drivers of pricing. In addition, they gave me quite a lot of responsibility and guided me during the journey very well. I also greatly appreciated the personal connect that they establish with each employee.

Advice

Ask as many questions as you can to understand the business beyond your vertical. Enjoy your time, connect with as many people as possible and work hard. The company appreciates people who want to bring changes.

Corporate Development/M&A

June - August 2022 • Sandy Springs, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed the culture of the company more than anything. Everyone is very nice and willing to help. The leaders of the company don't find themselves to be superior to the rest of the employees, which really creates an efficient work environment. I enjoyed working on real projects and having the ability to make an impact on my team.

My one piece of advice for an upcoming intern would be to treat the internship like a college course and learn as much as you can. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The managers here are very passionate about what they do and love to educate.

Human Resources Intern

June - July 2020 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

During my internship at Veritiv, I was able to gain amazing experience in each of the three departments: Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Total Rewards. This gave me an idea of what a career in HR would look like and helped me determine, which part of HR I wanted to pursue. I liked that I was able to work on real projects and make an impact on my team. Every employee I spoke with was so kind and helpful. I enjoyed the weekly professional development trainings and the end-of-summer presentations the interns gave to managers and the Senior Leadership Team. I was appreciative that Veritiv invested in their interns.

What I wish was different

I interned during peak COVID-19, so unfortunately, I was not able to experience a lot of the fun social activities and community service projects that were planned. That being said, the company did an incredible job giving the interns an in-person experience despites the many obstacles they had to overcome to make it happen.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Network with other employees (everyone is so nice!). Get to know the other interns and learn about what projects they're working on so you can learn about the different departments within Veritiv.

Product Management Intern

June - August 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I appreciated having the opportunity to work on projects that actually had an impact on the company, rather than being saddled with busy work. The company culture at Veritiv is fantastic, and it was great to be able to collaborate with various people throughout the company and learn about their roles and responsibilities. I also enjoyed the weekly development training sessions for interns, as well as the sense of comradery between my intern cohort.

What I wish was different

Advice

The best advice I could give to someone starting an internship at Veritiv would be to speak up and advocate for yourself! There are so many opportunities at this company available to you, from taking on new projects, to learning about a different department. If you express your interests and goals to your manager, or others within the organization, they can help you achieve them!

Corporate Communications Intern

June - August 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The culture and employee experience at Veritiv is unmatched! Everyone is willing to help and support each other, and progressive initiatives around Community Relations, DE&I, and employee engagement really confirmed my respect for and love of the company. Our CEO truly puts employees first, and that mindset trickles down across leadership levels. They really empower and equip you here to do what you love and develop professionally - at this goes for interns, too. I've been working here full-time since, and I absolutely love it!

What I wish was different

I wish I got to interact with all of the interns more often, as Veritiv has many locations, and not everyone was based in Atlanta. All GA interns, though, across our three locations here, did get together outside of work at organized Braves games, Atlanta United games, and TopGolf events. So mostly, I can't complain.

Advice

I would advise any incoming interns to bring their whole selves here. Internships in the corporate world can be intimidating, but at Veritiv, I truly believe that anyone can find their place here, while staying true to who they are.
